SPRING PAINTING COURSES 2022
at Fingask Castle

Fingask is a perfect place to paint. There is a wealth of subject matter here, from the garden with its topiary and statues to the wonderful trees and views across to the Tay. I hope you can join me for my two new Spring courses.

The Colourist Garden - 10th & 11th May 2022

Who better to study for some colour inspiration than the Scottish Colourists and the Fauves who inspired them! We will first take a look at some work for inspiration and paint outside in the garden at Fingask which lends itself so well with its many interesting features. This is a chance to step outside of your usual comfort zone and really enjoy colour as an expressive and emotional tool. Find your own colour voice! I will guide you along the way and you will gain practical advice on basic colour theory and how to make the paint work for you.

Oil is favoured but any preferred medium is welcome. All level of painters welcome, you will be able to work at your own pace.

Expressive oil Painting - Autumn dates to come 2022

Working outside 'en plein air', we will aim for a loose and expressive response to the chosen subject, using colour, composition, form and pattern to create a painting of character rather than an exact rendering. Armed with a few sketches to start with we will move onto canvas or board. Be as abstract and experimental as you like as you work towards your own interpretation.  I will guide you step by step through the various stages of working in oil.  There is an indoor space to work away from the elements if the weather is against us.

All levels are welcome whether you’re a beginner or a more experienced painter looking to loosen up your technique.
